Next day after amputation
We collected Barney this afternoon at 3pm. When I rang this morning for a status report he had already been for a little walk and a wee! – How pleased were we!
Well he is now home resting in the kitchen on his soft double duvet bed. He looks a little sorry for himself but is lying on his amputated leg, can’t believe this. When my husband got him out the car he “hopped” to the front garden had another wee and hopped/staggered through the house to the kitchen. I was really impressed – he hasn’t eaten anything yet but we have some chicken and bits to tempt him later.
I have booked his 1st chemo for a week today when he will have his wound checked too.
Will let you know how he gets on.

Sounds like Big Barney is well on his way to being a hoppy, healthy dog! I doubt he’s feeling sorry for himself, just loopy from the pain meds.

Oh, he is soooooo cute! Glad he’s doing so great on 3 legs already. How old is he? He looks like a puppy 🙂 What kind of cancer does he have (I assume cancer since he’s getting chemo…)? Best Wishes!!

Well, he is on his way…….take good care and give him lots of love (a double duvet & chicken) !!
He looks like he is resting peacefully now. Hope you have a good night. Hang in there the next 2 weeks, you may feel Barney is on a roller coaster and you are hanging on for dear life!!
We are all cheering you on!

Hey Barney, are you seeing pink elephants yet? You looked pretty relaxed there!
Glad to hear all is well. We know you’re going to kick this nasty disease’s butt, keep up the great recovery.

Hello Gineej, think I am getting better at this blogging! He looks much better each day. We are off to the vet this morning the plaster are hanging off and I am not going to remove them myself. He is eating well, and hopping about, not too bad at all. I feel like we have been on a roller coaster for a couple of weeks now so I am hoping the highs and especially the lows will flatten out a little. Thanks for all your support. Chris.

Morning Idillon81, he is an absolutely lovely dog, a real gentle soul. Even his orthopaedic surgeon say that cancer seems to get the good ones, like people! He has been diagnosed with Osteosarcoma rear back leg. When his leg was amputated they check on his lungs and couldn’t see anything – we will see. Not sure what chemo he will be on yet might know later today. And yes he is still a baby 15months old. Thanks for your kind wishes. Chris.

Hello being that I am in the UK we are on different times. Are we worrying too much about Barney? He had a really uncomfortable night and morning. He has a lot of swelling (fluid) my husband can hear it “sloshing” about. We spoke to the on call vet and she said that all is being done that can be done at the moment – they could drain some fluid off but they want to see how it goes. He is getting loads of love, cuddles and support but also needs quite time to rest and sleep. He is eating and doing the other necessary things but we are just worried all the time. We try not to show it because obviously he can pick up on our anxiety – but it is so very hard.
